Greece
Welcome to my first post! I’m glad you are hear with me today. This post is about my trip to Greece from 5/22/23-5/30/23! I will be sharing my experience, and sharing some photos at the end.
5/22-5/24: Athens, Greece
We started our trip off in Greece’s capital, Athens! If I had one world to describe the city as a whole, it would be people. I recommend not going during the high tourist season (summer mainly) as it gets so packed, you are waiting in lines everywhere! Still, the architecture and sheer history of this city surpasses any tourist snafu’s. We started off our trip going to the Parthenon in Acropolis, where we saw the city from above. It was a stunning view, and the ancient structures like the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Erechtheum were just as awe-inducing. After that, we went to get food at one of the local restaurants and visited the Hellenic Parliament Building where we saw the changing of the guards. Then, we went to the Arch of Hadrian and spent some time walking around the other remnants and statues surrounding the arch before ending our day with a nice dinner and some baklava. The next day, we went for a scenic drive, taking some beautiful photos by the water and soaking up the natural landscape. We headed on our way to the Temple of Poseidon which was surrounded by the deep blues of the Aegean Sea and startling greenery. After that, missing our standard Indian food (as all Indians do), we ate a classic Indian feast, and headed in for the night. The next day, we were off! We boarded a plane and headed to Santorini, Greece.
5/24-5/27: Santorini, Greece
After landing in Santorini, we went to our house which had a glorious view of the whites and blues so commonly associated with the island. We primarily spent the first 2 days simply walking around, going wherever our feet took us. This was one part I truly enjoyed about Santorini, the walkability and the beautiful streets filled with quaint shops and delicious food. On our final stop in the island, we went on a boat tour, swimming alongside fishies and eating traditional Greek food. While there may not be many specific sites to see in Santorini, the whole island itself is a sight, and it there is no shortage of adventurous and enjoyable experiences to be had. On our final day, we embarked on a ship ride to Naxos, Greece, with no shortage of scenery on our way there.
5/27-5/30: Naxos, Greece
This was my personal favorite stop of our trip, as it wasn’t filled with tourists and had small ‘villages’ that gave the island so much character and life. I saw another side of the country, the natural beauty, that I didn’t quite see in Athens or Santorini. On our first and second day in Naxos, we drove up the mountains into some residential communities, seeing goats and sheep while eating fresh apples and coffee from the local grocery store. The views here were absolutely stunning and all I could see was green trees, huge mountains, and a beautiful sunset. On our final vacation day, we went on a bus tour to Naxos Chora where we spent time listening to the waves and walking around the city, before visiting the Temple Of Apollo, which was a marvel to look at. We wrapped up our final day with a nice dinner and ice cream run before ending our journey to Greece.
Overall, our trip to Greece was fantastic! I absolutely recommend visiting the country if you are able to—there is something to do for every age range and is truly one of the most gorgeous and natural places on our planet. Please look below if you’d like to see some photos I took, and I hope you enjoyed! See you in the next one.
